Quick facts
- Pace groups every 10 minutes from 3:00 to 5:00, plus a 6:30 group.
- Aid stations and timing are guaranteed only for finishers within 6 hours 30 minutes; later finishers may not get an official time.
- No race-day registration, though packets can be picked up on race morning.
- Runners must be at least 16.
- Race photos are included with entry.
Course
The 8:00 a.m. start is at Marymoor Park, and the route follows the Sammamish River Trail and the Burke-Gilman Trail through Redmond, Woodinville, Bothell, Kenmore and Lake Forest Park before finishing at Gas Works Park with the Seattle skyline behind the line. The surface is paved and flat throughout. Water comes every other mile from mile 3, with gels at miles 5, 11, 16 and 21. King County keeps the trails open to the public during the race, so expect to share the path; volunteers at intersections and bike escorts will remind other trail users to watch for runners. A shuttle takes runners from the finish back to Marymoor.
Race-day weather
Mid-April around Seattle is usually cool, often gray and prone to showers. Those conditions tend to suit steady running, but bring a layer and something dry for the shuttle back to the start.
About the Washington State Marathon
Race directors Jordan Andersen, who founded the Redmond Harvest Half Marathon, and Grant Harrington, owner of Snohomish Running Company, are launching this race as a full marathon for the Seattle area. The top three in the open and women's divisions win cash prizes, and runners with fast recent results can apply for elite entry with a reduced or free entry fee and a seeded start.
