Quick facts
- Point-to-point course from Ojai to Ventura.
- USATF-certified Boston qualifier with a long gentle net drop.
- Limited field that tends to sell out well before race week.
- Strong choice for runners hunting fast California spring times.
Course
The marathon starts just above 700 feet in Ojai and trends downhill toward the Ventura coast before finishing near the pier. It is quick without feeling gimmicky, because the net drop comes gradually enough that many runners can stay in control if they resist going out too hard.
Race-day weather
Ventura County in April is usually cool to mild, especially early, and coastal conditions are often better than inland California spring races. Sun and any late-race warmth still matter once the course gets more exposed.
About the Mountains to Beach Marathon
This race sits in the sweet spot between destination scenery and serious qualifier intent. The field is limited, the entry goes quickly, and runners show up knowing the layout can reward disciplined pacing.
