About the Avenue of the Giants Marathon
Few road marathons in the country look like Avenue of the Giants. The race has long been part of the spring calendar, and the draw is obvious from the first glance at the route through Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Course
The marathon is a double out-and-back that starts near Dyerville Bridge and later runs through Weott. It is certified and Boston-qualifying, but the real identity of the course is the redwood canopy, quiet road miles, and the way the setting makes the whole day feel removed from normal road-race noise.
Race-day weather
Early May is usually cool under the trees, and the shade helps more than it does in most California marathons. The open sections can still warm up once the sun is higher, especially if you go out too aggressively on the rollers.
