Quick facts
- Billed as one of the Pacific Northwest's most scenic Boston Qualifiers.
- USATF-certified point-to-point course between Ellensburg and Selah.
- 7-hour course closure with early start by permission.
- Bus logistics are part of the point-to-point setup.
Course
The marathon starts on Canyon Road near Ellensburg, then heads south along State Route 821 through the Yakima River Canyon toward Selah. There are two major hills, many curves, and a long downhill before the finish, so this is not flat but it is consistently scenic.
Race-day weather
Late March in central Washington often starts cool and dry, but canyon wind and exposed road sections can change how the day feels quickly. Temperature is usually manageable; exposure is the real variable.
About the Yakima River Canyon Marathon
Yakima River Canyon is built around scenery first and speed second. The race leans into the canyon setting, bus logistics, and point-to-point feel, making it a strong fit for runners who want something beautiful without giving up a certified marathon.
