About the Hokie Half Marathon
The Hokie Half Marathon has anchored fall racing in Blacksburg since 2013, with a 2,000-runner cap, live bands on course, and a Hokie Bird finisher medal. RunAbout Sports organizes the race, and the college-town setting gives it a bigger race-day feel than its size suggests.
Course
The first three miles run on Blacksburg roads before the route settles onto the Huckleberry Trail for about six miles, then returns to roads and paths for the finish. The rail-trail miles are gentle, but New River Valley terrain keeps the road sections rolling.
Race-day weather
September mornings in Blacksburg often start in the low 50s and stay comfortable through the finish. Sun exposure builds late in the race, but heat is rarely the deciding factor at this elevation.
