About the Big Easy Halloween Half Marathon
Nothing about this race touches the tourist route. It sets up on the New Orleans lakefront roughly six miles north of the French Quarter, and while a large share of the field runs in costume, the closed course and flat ground also make it a reasonable place to chase a time.
Course
The route stays on fully closed roads along Lakeshore Drive and the surrounding lakefront, about as flat as road racing gets in Louisiana. Wind off Lake Pontchartrain is the main variable, and the finish sits next to the lakefront restaurants that host the party afterward.
Race-day weather
Late October takes the edge off New Orleans humidity without removing it. A seven o'clock start usually means the mid sixties and damp air, and runners in full costume feel that more than the thermometer suggests.
