About the Run Rockaway Beach Half Marathon
The Rockaway Track Club keeps this one simple: a boardwalk start at Beach 94th Street, ocean the whole way, and a local-club price point. For New York runners it is one of the few chances to race 13.1 miles without a single road crossing or car in sight.
Course
Two boardwalk loops from Beach 94th Street, turning around near Beach 124th Street and Beach 54th Street. The surface is flat boards and concrete with zero elevation change, so pacing is pure rhythm. The course is fully exposed, and ocean wind is usually the difference between a fast day and a grind.
Race-day weather
Late October at the beach typically runs 45 to 60 degrees. Wind off the Atlantic is the main variable and can be a headwind on one half of each loop, so plan effort by direction rather than even splits.
