About the April Fools Half Marathon
The Katz JCC group behind the Atlantic City Marathon runs this as its spring date, and it is one of the flattest halves on the Northeast calendar. Costumes turn up because of the name, but the course and the pace teams are set up for runners going after a time.
Course
The route starts and finishes on the Boardwalk and runs a long out-and-back, with more than eight miles on boards and the rest on Pacific Avenue and the residential streets through Chelsea and Ventnor. It is flat enough that ocean wind is the main variable on the day.
Race-day weather
Early April on the Jersey shore can be raw. Starts in the 40s are common, the Boardwalk sections are fully exposed, and an out-and-back guarantees a headwind on one half of the route.
