About the Aliferis Half Marathon
Alpena's memorial race has been part of northeastern Michigan's calendar for a quarter century, raising money for local cancer care through MyMichigan Health. The half marathon is the anchor event on a morning that also includes shorter runs and bike rides.
Course
Runners shuttle out to a rural start and follow the North Eastern State Trail point to point into Alpena, finishing at the medical center campus. The crushed limestone surface is flat and steady, so rhythm matters more than hills.
Race-day weather
Early September mornings near Lake Huron are usually cool, often in the 50s at the start. The day can warm into the 60s or 70s by the finish, and the open trail offers stretches without shade.
