Turkey Trail Trot Half Marathon

Quick facts
- All-dirt trail half on wide and single track, not a road race.

- Wave starts on Thanksgiving morning, with shorter races the following day.
- No strollers or dogs allowed on the course.
About the Turkey Trail Trot Half Marathon
Most Thanksgiving races are 5Ks. This one puts a full trail half on the holiday calendar at Stony Creek Metropark, with proceeds going to Meals on Wheels. Move-It Fitness adds a second day of shorter races on Friday, so runners can bundle the two mornings.
Course
Everything runs on dirt, split between wide two-track and single track through the woods. Leaves cover the roots and rocks by late November, so footing is the main technical demand. The rollers range from gentle to steep, and repeated short climbs make the effort feel less even than a road half of the same distance.
Race-day weather
Late November in southeast Michigan means an 8:00 AM start near or below freezing, often with frost on the trail. Wet leaves and cold hands are the usual complaints. Conditions can also turn to mud if the week before is warm and rainy.
