Quick facts

  • Single out and back on Manasota Key with almost no turns.
  • Chip timed with a 3 hour course limit.
  • Course stays open to traffic, so runners follow marshals and law enforcement.
  • Finish includes a hot breakfast and live music at the presenting restaurant.

Course

Half marathoners head north on Beach Road for roughly 6.55 miles, turn, and come back. Tree lined stretches give real shade, turns are nearly nonexistent, and the flat profile makes pacing simple. Roads stay open to traffic, so the route is shared.

Race-day weather

Mid October on the Gulf coast is still warm and humid at a 7 am start, usually low to mid 70s. Sea breeze off Manasota Key helps most on the return leg.

About the YMCA Sandbar Half Marathon

The Englewood YMCA runs this from the south beach lot on Manasota Key, with The SandBar Tiki and Grille presenting and hosting the finish. It is a small Gulf coast race with a plain format and a post race breakfast that most of the field stays for.
