Quick facts
- USATF certified course on fully closed downtown streets.

- Riverfront Park finish with music, food, and local brewery pours.
About the Wilmington Historic Half Marathon
This is the December half in coastal North Carolina, and it leans on downtown rather than the beach. RaceRaves voters named it the state's best half marathon in 2024. The finish area at Riverfront Park doubles as the event's social center, with local brewery pours and a long post-race stay.
Course
USATF certified as NC23040BDS, the route runs fully closed roads through the historic district. The three downtown bridge crossings supply nearly all of the climbing, short and sharp rather than sustained. More than a mile runs along the Cape Fear riverwalk before the return to Riverfront Park.
Race-day weather
Early December in Wilmington is close to ideal for the distance, with 7:45 AM starts often in the 40s and low humidity. Wind coming off the Cape Fear River is the one thing that can make the exposed riverwalk section feel harder than the splits suggest.
