About the Summit Rock Half Marathon
One of Brazen Racing's toughest halves, held in the Santa Cruz Mountains a short drive from San Jose. Fields hover near 110 to 150 finishers, and the organizers openly tell first time trail runners to hike the climbs rather than race them.
Course
A mix of fire road, tight singletrack and short paved sections through Sanborn County Park's redwood groves, with a sustained climb to the park's high point and views over the valley. The descents are technical enough that downhill running skill matters as much as fitness.
Race-day weather
Mid December in the Santa Cruz Mountains is cool and often damp, with filtered light under the canopy and temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Recent rain leaves roots and clay slick on the steeper singletrack.
