About the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon

Runners come to this one for the clock. The net drop is steep enough that it sits outside record-eligible territory, but for anyone chasing a personal best in a comfortable December window it is one of the easier courses in Southern California to run fast on.

Course

The start is on Penasquitos Drive, turning onto Carmel Mountain Road and following the bike path down to a finish on Sorrento Valley Road. The only real climb comes near mile 1.5; after that the course gives back 711 feet of net elevation.

Race-day weather

Mid-December mornings in San Diego are usually cool and dry, often in the 50s at the 7:30 start. Conditions are about as friendly as this course gets, which is part of why it fills.
