About the Thrive San Diego Half Marathon
Easy Day Sports runs this one as a community health event with Make-A-Wish San Diego as the charity partner, but the half is a legitimate time-trial course. It fills a useful late-season slot for Southern California runners who want one more fast effort before winter training starts.
Course
The loop starts on Ingraham Street, tracks the Mission Bay shoreline past Crown Point and Tecolote Shores, and closes at Ski Beach. It is flat and largely paved path and road, which makes even pacing easy to hold. Runners who are not past mile 9 by the posted cutoff get routed onto a shortcut that trims about two miles.
Race-day weather
November mornings at Mission Bay are usually cool and damp, often in the high 50s with marine layer overhead. The bay breeze is steady rather than strong, and the sun often burns through around the time the field is finishing.
