About the Sugarloaf Marathon

The Sugarloaf Marathon has a very specific appeal: serious runners know it as a capped-field Maine race with real scenery and real performance intent. It sells out for a reason, and that reason is not generic spring-marathon scarcity.

Course

The course starts near Eustis, follows Route 27 through Carrabassett Valley, and finishes in Kingfield. The first 10 miles are not free, but the long gradual descent over the second half is what gives the race its reputation as one of Maine's fastest courses.

Race-day weather

Mountain mornings in western Maine are often cool enough to help early pacing, and that is part of why the race draws Boston-qualifier chasers. Conditions can still shift over the later miles, especially if the sun gets stronger on the more open descent.
