About the Bangor Marathon

The nonprofit Maine Endurance Sports Alliance organizes the Bangor Running Festival, with the marathon as its anchor event. The race gives northern New England a certified June marathon with an unusually forgiving format, since finishers face no time limit and the shorter distances share the morning.

Course

An out-and-back layout starts at Main Street and Dutton Street downtown, follows Valley Avenue to Broadway, and turns around in the town of Kenduskeag before returning to finish at Bangor Waterfront Park. The profile is flat and fast by Maine standards, and the certified route supports Boston qualifying times.

Race-day weather

Mid-June in Bangor typically starts in the 50s and can reach the 70s by late morning. Humidity is usually moderate rather than oppressive, but the back half can feel warm, so pacing for a rising temperature curve is the smart play.
