Moosehead Marathon
Moosehead Marathon is a rural Maine mixed-surface race with lake views, rolling roads, dirt sections, northern chill, and no Boston-qualifier pressure.
Moosehead Marathon quick facts
- Mixed-surface marathon with roughly 80 percent pavement and 20 percent dirt.
- Two-loop route around Greenville and the Moosehead Lake region.
- Not USATF certified and not a Boston qualifier.
- Better fit for scenic adventure than for strict time chasing.
What is the Moosehead Marathon?
This is the opposite of a polished urban spring marathon. Moosehead is new, small, and built around place more than speed, giving runners a chance to see the Greenville area without pretending the course is easy or especially certification focused.
Moosehead Marathon course route
The marathon uses two loops on a route that mixes paved back roads with dirt sections around Moosehead Lake country. Rolling terrain and roughly 1,800 feet of gain keep it honest, and the surface mix makes it feel more adventurous than a standard road marathon.
Weather for the Moosehead Marathon
Late April in northern Maine can be cold at the start and raw all day if wind or drizzle move in. On a good year the air is crisp and comfortable, but it is wise to plan for tougher conditions than a big-city April race.
