About the Savage Gulf Marathon

Savage Gulf is marketed as a survival-style trail challenge, not a gentle introduction to trail marathons. HardWin Adventures and the Tennessee Park Rangers Association keep the field capped and require prior marathon experience for the full distance.

Course

Two steep descents and climbs into and out of Savage Gulf define the route, along with rugged plateau terrain, stream crossings, bluff-edge running, and rocky technical footing. This is a race where time goals matter less than trail judgment and keeping yourself moving.

Race-day weather

Late March on the Cumberland Plateau can mean chilly starts, wet rock, and rapid weather shifts. If rain moves through, the technical sections become much more serious.
