About the Saguaro Showdown Backyard Ultra
Saguaro Showdown Backyard Ultra is the running division of Kaniksu Ultras' last-person-standing weekend at Usery Mountain Regional Park. Runners complete 4.1667 miles each hour until one competitor can finish a final yard alone.
The event also offers separately scored ruck and capped Backyard 24 divisions; this entry covers only the open-ended run. Desert trail yards define the daylight hours before the race moves to a simpler road course overnight and returns to trail after sunrise.
Course
The 4.1667-mile daytime yard uses desert trails at Usery Mountain Regional Park. Overnight, runners switch to an out-and-back road loop, then return to the trail course in the morning.
Race-day weather
January in the Sonoran Desert often provides mild, dry daytime running, but temperatures can drop quickly after sunset. Exposed trail sections also make sun and wind part of the pacing calculation.
