About the MAD Backyard Ultra

Camp Jordan Park gives MAD a practical base for an open-ended last-runner-standing race. Each runner must finish the 4.167-mile yard inside an hour and return to the corral for the next bell.

Course

The 4.167-mile loop uses the park's exterior track with pavement, gravel and grass. It is flat, runnable and nontechnical, so efficient pacing and a disciplined crew routine matter more than climbing skill.

Race-day weather

January in southeast Tennessee can begin near freezing and warm through the day. Rain is possible, and wet grass or gravel can make an otherwise easy-running loop slower after many hours.
