MAD Backyard Ultra
A flat 4.167-mile circuit through Camp Jordan Park makes this East Ridge backyard approachable early, while the hourly resets punish late pacing.
Quick facts
- One 4.167-mile loop starts every hour until a lone runner completes the final yard.
- Flat pavement, gravel and grass reward even pacing rather than technical trail skill.
- Crew tents and canopies are allowed near the start and finish area.
- The race is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship series.
- Bronze Ticket event in the Road to Big's structure.

About the MAD Backyard Ultra
Camp Jordan Park gives MAD a practical base for an open-ended last-runner-standing race. Each runner must finish the 4.167-mile yard inside an hour and return to the corral for the next bell.
Course
The 4.167-mile loop uses the park's exterior track with pavement, gravel and grass. It is flat, runnable and nontechnical, so efficient pacing and a disciplined crew routine matter more than climbing skill.
Race-day weather
January in southeast Tennessee can begin near freezing and warm through the day. Rain is possible, and wet grass or gravel can make an otherwise easy-running loop slower after many hours.
