About the Park2Park Half Marathon
This is the biggest annual fundraiser for Neighbors Plus, a community development nonprofit in Holland, and it has held its late September slot on the Ottawa County calendar since the mid 2010s. The draw is the routing rather than the size of the field. Few Michigan halves put a big lake, a state park, and a shoreline drive into one loop.
Course
The loop leaves the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, follows the Lake Macatawa shore through the Waukazoo Woods neighborhoods to Holland State Park, turns north on Lakeshore Drive as far as Tunnel Park, then returns through surrounding neighborhoods. It is USATF certified and gently rolling rather than flat. Roads stay open to traffic, so runners share pavement with cars in the neighborhood sections.
Race-day weather
Late September on the Lake Michigan shore normally starts in the 50s and warms slowly. The lake keeps real heat off the race, but the Lakeshore Drive stretch is exposed and a steady onshore wind can turn the northbound miles into work.
