About the Paris Mountain Half Marathon
One of the tougher trail halves in upstate South Carolina, this race has been part of the Upstate Race Series calendar for years. The run-or-hike format is honest about the terrain: plenty of entrants power-hike the steep pitches, and the cutoffs are built to allow it.
Course
The route works through Paris Mountain State Park on singletrack and park trails, stacking switchbacks and summit climbs for roughly 2,300 feet of gain. Lake sections give brief flat recovery between grades, and October leaf cover can hide roots and rocks, so footing needs attention late in the race.
Race-day weather
Mid October in Greenville usually starts in the 40s or 50s and warms toward 70. The forest canopy limits direct sun, and fallen leaves after a wet week can make descents slick.
