About the Hartness Half Marathon

This December race trades a road course for a cross-country style run across the Hartness property near Pelham Road, with proceeds supporting Make-A-Wish South Carolina. Results go back to 2017, and the weekend also includes a 5K and a half marathon relay.

Course

Runners move between pavement, dirt roads, gravel, singletrack, and grass fields across the Hartness grounds. The surfaces are well maintained, but constant transitions make even pacing harder than the distance suggests, and road flats are the wrong shoe choice for many runners.

Race-day weather

Mid-December mornings in Greenville are usually cold, often in the 30s at the start. Frost can leave grass sections slick early, and conditions tend to stay cool through the finish.
