About the Oktoberfest Runs at Stony Creek Half Marathon
KONA Running Company has staged this Stony Creek event for over a decade, and the move to an earlier fall date turned the half and the 30K into sharpening races for runners with a later goal marathon. The half field sits in the low hundreds, and the day shares its course with a 30K, 10K, and 5K.
Course
Everything runs on the Stony Creek Metropark pedestrian path, a wide paved loop around the lake through woods and open shoreline. The half covers two full laps plus a short extra loop, with aid every mile. It is close to flat, with a handful of small rollers, and the repeating layout makes it easy to read your own splits and easy to know exactly what is left.
Race-day weather
Early October in southeast Michigan tends to start in the 40s with fall color already showing along the path. Warming through the morning is slow, and the exposed shoreline stretches can pick up wind that the wooded sections block.
