About the Oak Tree Half Marathon
The Oak Tree began in 2005 as a fundraiser for the Genesee Valley Conservancy, and race proceeds still go to protecting habitat and farmland in the valley. The half marathon anchors a Labor Day weekend race morning in Geneseo, a college town with a historic Main Street, alongside a competitive 5K that often draws a fast regional field.
Course
The route leaves Geneseo's historic district and heads into the Genesee Valley past old oak savannas, sheep pastures, and horse farms. The countryside looks gentle, but the rollers add up and runners often finish saying it was hillier than expected.
Race-day weather
Early September in western New York usually means a cool start in the 50s with the sun and some humidity building by the finish. It is rarely hot, but the second half can feel warmer than the start line suggested.
