About the Northshore Half Marathon
St. Tammany Parish runners treat this as the fall race worth planning around, and the entry cap makes late signups a gamble. The half and the 10 miler split a combined 1,250 spots, corrals are assigned by predicted finish, and a Saturday evening 5K in Old Mandeville opens the weekend before the Sunday morning start.
Course
Start and finish sit under the oaks inside Fontainebleau State Park. From there the route strings together Lakeshore Drive, the tree lined blocks of Old Mandeville, West Beach Boulevard, and a section of the Tammany Trace rail trail. There is essentially nothing to climb, so what decides the day is wind off Lake Pontchartrain and whether the first six miles were honest.
Race-day weather
Mid October on the lake usually opens mild, often in the 60s, with humidity still sitting on the course at a 7 a.m. start. It is a long way from a Louisiana summer race, but a high dew point can still stack effort onto the closing miles.
