Quick facts
- West Maui setting with resort-based race-week logistics.
- Early start and headlamps are part of the race-day plan.
- Out-and-back course rather than a point-to-point coastal tour.
- Heat, humidity, and sun are central pacing factors.
Course
The route uses out-and-back running in West Maui, so scenery stays front and center and logistics stay simpler than a point-to-point island setup. The bigger challenge is managing effort in a place where warmth, humidity, and sun feel different from what many mainland runners train in.
Race-day weather
Late April in West Maui is warm, humid, and bright enough that the early miles matter. An early start helps, but runners who underestimate the climate can find the back half very long.
About the Maui Marathon
This is a destination race first and it knows it. The appeal is the island setting, the trip, and the chance to pair a marathon with a very different kind of race week, not a search for perfect cooling-weather splits.
