About the Jones Gap Half Marathon
Upstate Race Series stages this trail half from River Falls Lodge at the edge of Jones Gap State Park, deep in South Carolina's Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. It is a mountain trail race, not a fast crossover event, and it draws runners who want real climbing an hour from Greenville.
Course
The route strings together singletrack and connector trails past Rainbow Falls, a section of the Rim of the Gap Trail, and Little Pinnacle Mountain, with roughly 2,000 feet of total gain. Aid comes only at miles 2 and 11, so runners should carry their own fluids.
Race-day weather
Mid-September in the South Carolina mountains is still warm and humid, with starts in the 60s. Forest canopy shades most of the course, which softens the sun but keeps the air heavy.
