Quick facts
- USATF certified and fully paved, with no trail or gravel sections.
- Recent fields have topped 500 finishers, large for a valley half.
- Two-person relay splits the course at 7 miles and 6.1 miles.
- Four hour course limit with wave starts from Westover Park.
Course
The certified route starts at Westover Park and stays on pavement the whole way, linking parks, golf course paths and residential streets. Wave starts begin shortly after seven, and the four hour limit is generous. Relay teams split it at seven miles and 6.1 miles.
Race-day weather
Early October in the valley usually means a cold, still start and a comfortable finish. Fog in the low sections is common, and the temperature swing across the morning is often larger than runners plan for.
About the Harrisonburg Half Marathon
VA Momentum built this race around the Friendly City Trail network, and it has grown into one of the larger autumn halves in the Shenandoah Valley. Fields have run past five hundred finishers, which is unusual for a city this size and makes the later miles less lonely than most valley races.
