Quick facts

  • Roughly 90 percent trail, with the hardest climbing in the first three miles.
  • Long downhill sections at miles three to five and again at mile nine.
  • Around 200 half marathon finishers in recent editions.
  • Starts and finishes at Shane's Inspiration inside Griffith Park.

Course

About 90 percent trail and 10 percent asphalt. The opening miles climb the Upper Old Zoo and Bill Eckert trails, miles three to five run mostly downhill on pavement, then a rolling stretch through the middle before a fast descent at mile nine and a flat trail run to the finish.

Race-day weather

Early January in Los Angeles is cool and dry more often than not, in the 40s at the start and 60s by late morning. After winter rain the dirt sections hold moisture and the descents get slick.

About the Griffith Park Resolution Run Half Marathon

Aztlan Athletics runs this in the first days of January from Shane's Inspiration, and it has settled near 200 half marathon finishers. It is the rare Los Angeles half where trail shoes are the right call, and the early January date makes it a useful reset race.
