Eight laps make Green Lakes a mental as well as physical endurance test. The compact state-park setup keeps runners near aid and familiar landmarks while the repeated loop steadily changes through the day.
Course
Each nearly eight-mile circuit has two climbs, a long forest descent, shaded lakeshore running, and an exposed meadow section known as the Serengeti. Surfaces range from singletrack and grass to dirt road and brief asphalt.
Race-day weather
Late August in central New York can be hot and humid. The open meadow receives sustained sun, while forest and lakeside sections provide shade but may hold moisture after rain.
