About the Golden Gate Trail Run Marathon
Coastal Trail Runs stages this full marathon within a multi-distance February trail event. It is a separate race from other similarly named Golden Gate events in the Bay Area.
Course
The route uses rugged Marin Headlands trails with repeated climbs, descents and exposed coastal viewpoints. Technical footing and elevation make the marathon a trail endurance test rather than a road-speed effort.

February in the Headlands may bring cool sun, rain, fog and strong Pacific wind in quick succession. Muddy trail, slick descents and exposed ridgelines can materially change the difficulty.
