Quick facts

  • Roughly 5,000 feet of altitude, worth respecting if you live at sea level.
  • Mixed surface, concrete path with a gravel trail section in the middle miles.
  • Small field, typically under 200 half marathon finishers.
  • Out and back from Reliance Park with a 7 a.m. start to beat the heat.

About the Erie Half Marathon

Part of a Colorado series that deliberately skips the Denver and Boulder metro and races in smaller Front Range towns instead. Erie has held this one every summer since 2015, and the half stays intentionally small, with recent fields under 200 finishers.

Course

From Reliance Park the route follows the Coal Creek Trail south and west toward Erie Municipal Airport, turns around, and retraces the same path. Most of it is concrete, with a gravel trail stretch roughly between miles 4.5 and 8.5 that slows footing without adding real climbing.

Race-day weather

Front Range mornings in August start cool, often in the 50s, then heat up quickly once the sun clears the horizon. Altitude near 5,000 feet is the bigger factor for visiting runners, and the trail offers little shade.
