About the Provo Canyon Half Marathon
Branded PC2PG for its Provo Canyon to Pleasant Grove line, this is a downhill summer half aimed at runners chasing a fast time in a state that has plenty of canyon races but few on continuous paved trail. Buses leave the finish area before dawn, so the day starts early even by point-to-point standards.
Course
The half starts at Big Springs Park, up the canyon east of Vivian Park, and runs down the Provo River Trail past Bridal Veil Falls before joining the Murdock Canal Trail toward the valley. The finish is at Oak Canyon Junior High in Lindon, where the 10K and 5K also start. Surface is paved trail nearly the whole way, and the descent is gradual rather than steep, so quad damage matters less than early restraint.
Race-day weather
A 7 a.m. canyon start in mid-August is usually cool, sometimes in the 50s, with shade for the first few miles. The valley miles are drier, brighter, and noticeably warmer, and the whole course sits above 4,500 feet.
