About the America’s Finest City Half Marathon
A long-running San Diego tradition, AFC gives runners a scenic one-way tour rather than a generic city loop. The coastal opening, military and maritime landmarks, and demanding late climb create a race with a clear strategic identity.
Course
The USATF-certified course starts near Cabrillo National Monument, descends through Point Loma and Fort Rosecrans, then follows the bay into downtown. A late climb up Sixth Avenue breaks the otherwise favorable profile before Balboa Park.
Race-day weather
Race morning is typically mild but humid, with the organizer citing averages near 68°F and 70-80% humidity. Sun exposure grows later, especially along the bay and final climb.
