Run since 2015 and organized by Epic Races, this is a women-only half marathon on Belle Isle in the Detroit River. It is walker friendly and pairs the half with a 10K and a 5K on the same morning. Recent half fields have run around 200 to 220 finishers.
Course
The half starts and finishes at the James Scott Memorial Fountain near the western end of Belle Isle and runs the paved park roads of the 982 acre island. The profile is flat, the pavement is consistent, and the water views alternate between the Detroit skyline and the Canadian shoreline at Windsor. Wind off the river is the main variable rather than elevation.
Race-day weather
Late September on Belle Isle usually means cool 50s at the 8:00 a.m. start with plenty of open road and little shelter. Wind coming off the Detroit River is the factor most likely to affect pacing.
