About the Capital Backyard Ultra
Capital Backyard Ultra is a performance-focused last-runner-standing race at Meadowood, just outside Washington, DC. Its limited field and experienced staff are intended to give serious backyard runners room, support and strong competition for multi-day attempts.
Entry is selective: the public registration path currently feeds a waitlist, with invitations issued on a rolling basis and automatic consideration for runners who meet the organizer's stated experience criteria. The pavilion keeps crew stations close to the corral throughout the race.
Course
Each 4.167-mile yard starts on the hour. Daylight yards use rolling horse trails and crushed-gravel bridle paths; overnight yards switch to a faster paved bike path with less climbing.
Race-day weather
March in northern Virginia can move from chilly mornings to mild afternoons, with rain and wind both plausible. The covered pavilion gives crews useful protection between yards.
