Quick facts

  • Winter trail half on rolling singletrack at Island Lake Recreation Area.
  • Run and ruck divisions, one of the few Michigan winter races to offer both.
  • Steady fields near 150 to 165 half marathon finishers.
  • Mid morning start to let temperatures rise before the race.

Course

Rolling singletrack through Island Lake Recreation Area, beginner friendly in shape but unpredictable in surface. Snow, ice, slush and mud all show up in different years, and the late morning start is designed to let the temperature climb before runners head out.

Race-day weather

Mid February in southeast Michigan sits near or below freezing, and the trail surface matters more than the air. Expect packed snow, refrozen ruts or thawed mud depending on the week.

About the Winter Trail Fest East Half Marathon

The eastern half of a two race Michigan winter trail pairing, held near Brighton about a week before the western edition at Yankee Springs. Fields sit around 150 to 165 half marathon finishers, and the appeal is having a reason to train through the coldest stretch of the year.
