About the Wicked Half Marathon
The Wicked Half has been a North Shore fixture for well over a decade, drawing close to 1,000 runners to a single-distance race morning at Salem Willows. Its September date is part of the appeal: runners get Salem's coastal setting a few weeks before the city's October crush makes logistics miserable.
Course
The USATF-certified route leaves Salem Willows, crosses into Marblehead, and returns along the coast. There is more elevation change than a shoreline course suggests, with aid stations every 1.5 to 2 miles and a 4-hour cap. An earlier sunshine start accommodates runners pacing 16 minutes per mile or slower.

Late September on the North Shore usually means cool starts in the 50s with an ocean breeze on exposed stretches. Warm, humid mornings still happen, and the sun can feel strong once it clears the harbor.
