About the Waterville Marathon
Maine Endurance Sports Alliance, a nonprofit, carries on the event started as the Great Waterville Marathon and runs it as a small fall festival with full, half, 10K, and 5K distances. It fills a central Maine gap between the coastal fall races and gives Kennebec Valley runners a marathon close to home.
Course
The marathon starts at Thomas College and heads out along Route 104 into open countryside before returning to campus. Support is lighter than at big-city races, so runners should be comfortable with quiet paved miles and holding their own pace.
Race-day weather
Early October in central Maine is usually crisp, with starts in the 40s and highs in the 50s or low 60s. Rain moves through often enough that a throwaway layer at the start is a practical plan.
