About the Thumb Coast Ultra
The idea is simple: start on Lake Huron at sunrise in Harbor Beach and race the sun across the Thumb to Caseville on Saginaw Bay. Trivium Racing has built the event around that framing, with an I Beat the Sun award for 50 mile finishers who arrive before sunset. A 50K, a 50 mile relay, and ruck divisions fill out the day.
Course
The 50 mile is a true point to point on about 85 percent dirt roads through open farmland, with only around 500 feet of total gain. It runs fast but offers little shelter, and the long straight gravel stretches ask for patience more than climbing legs. The 50K is a flatter out-and-back from Caseville County Park with roughly 220 feet of gain.
Race-day weather
Late April in the Thumb usually starts in the 30s and may only reach the 50s, with wind off Lake Huron sweeping the open farmland. Wind direction can shape the day more than temperature, and rain can turn the dirt roads soft.
