About the Furnace Backyard Ultra

The Furnace is built around a simple constraint: repeat 6.706 kilometers every hour in the peak of a Darling Downs summer. The race has no fixed end and continues until one runner completes a final solo yard.

Course

The exposed trail loop gains less than 20 meters per yard. With almost no climbing or technical relief, runners must manage pace, hydration, and body temperature across repeated hourly starts.

Race-day weather

February in inland Queensland can be hot, sunny and humid, with little shade on an exposed course. Heat management may remain decisive even when the terrain itself stays fast and flat.
