About the Coastal Challenge Expedition 249K
The Coastal Challenge is an established moving-base-camp stage race first held in 2005. The Expedition field tackles the full route independently from the shorter Adventure option across the same week.
Course
Six point-to-point stages run from Playa del Rey near Quepos toward the Osa Peninsula. Jungle singletrack, rivers, beaches, farmland and coastal heat combine for 249 kilometres and 10,194 metres of climbing.
Race-day weather
February is in Costa Rica's drier season, yet Pacific heat, heavy humidity and river crossings keep moisture management difficult. Exposed beaches and inland climbs can make midday conditions punishing.
