Herdy's Frontyard Ultra

Herdy's Frontyard Ultra applies traditional backyard rules to a highly visible loop around Herdsman Lake in Perth. A new 6.71 km yard starts each hour, and the race continues until one runner completes a final loop that nobody else can match.

The event is known for an unusually large starting field and an energetic central base rather than an isolated trail setting. That scale makes early yards social and busy, while the exposed lake circuit and repeated overnight laps steadily turn the race into a strategic endurance contest.

Runners repeat a 6.71 km circuit around Herdsman Lake, returning to the same transition area each hour. The path is runnable and accessible, but it is exposed to wind and becomes unlit at night, making a headlamp essential.

Perth can still be warm in March, with dry afternoon conditions and much cooler nights around the lake. Sun exposure and wind are more likely concerns than persistent rain.
