About the Red Dirt Backyard Ultra
Red Dirt Backyard Ultra brings hourly last-runner-standing racing to Karratha in Western Australia's Pilbara. There is no fixed finish distance: runners repeat 6.71 km until only one can continue.
Course
The flat 6.71 km yard combines gravel, hard sand and the region's distinctive red dirt, with only about 3 m of climbing per lap. Uneven footing and exposure matter more than the elevation profile.
Race-day weather
Karratha's dry-season sun can still create a demanding daytime heat load, followed by cooler overnight running. Shade, hydration, dust control and crew organization are central to a long attempt.
