Temecula Valley's half is a destination race built around the vineyards southeast of Los Angeles, with a winery finish area and a field that skews toward runners treating it as a weekend rather than a time trial. Course
The start and finish are at Wilson Creek Winery on Rancho California Road. The route runs out through vineyard roads and rolling countryside, with the bulk of the climbing loaded into the first third and a long descending return that still throws in a steep pitch late. Aid stations sit roughly every two miles, and gels are handed out in the back half.
Race-day weather
Early November inland is cool at a 7 a.m. start, often in the 40s or low 50s, then climbs fast once the sun is over the hills. Shade is scarce on the vineyard roads and the air is dry, which makes the exposed return leg the part to plan for.
