About the Seacoast Half Marathon
This is the anchor half marathon of the New Hampshire seacoast, and it runs on a single-charity model. Each edition names one local nonprofit and sends the full net proceeds there, which is a large part of why the field and the volunteer base keep coming back. It is a half marathon only, with no companion 5K or kids race splitting the morning.
Course
The loop starts and finishes at Portsmouth High School and covers paved town roads through Portsmouth, Rye, and New Castle. Total elevation change is small, in the neighborhood of 60 feet, so the few rollers register as tempo changes rather than climbs. Salt marsh, woodland, and open coastline trade off through the middle miles, and the roads stay open to traffic with marshals rather than closures.
Race-day weather
Late October on this coast usually means a start near freezing and a finish in the low 50s. Onshore wind is the variable that decides pacing, because several miles run with almost no shelter from the water.
