About the Savin Rock Marathon
Savin Rock has an old-school club-race feel rather than a giant-city-race feel. Shoreline Sharks centers the day on West Haven and the Savin Rock Conference Center, with a repeatable loop that gives runners clear reference points instead of constant course surprises.
Course
The course opens with 4 flat miles, rolls through 5 hills in the next 5 miles, then finishes with downhill and flat miles, and marathoners do that loop twice. About one-third of it runs along Long Island Sound, with some roads partially closed rather than fully shut down.
Race-day weather
Late March on the Connecticut shoreline usually means cool temperatures and a real chance of wind off the Sound. Flat miles near the water can still feel exposed when the breeze is up.
