About the Rio de Janeiro International Half Marathon
This is Rio's long-running standalone international half rather than the shorter race on the city's marathon weekend. A deep local field starts in waves soon after sunrise, and the point-to-point setup makes start and finish transport part of the race plan.
Course
The half starts on Avenida Delfim Moreira in Leblon and finishes on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique in Gloria. The route follows broad waterfront roads through the South Zone, with very little room in the schedule for a slow final stretch because the finish closes three hours after the first half-marathon start.
Race-day weather
August is winter in Rio, but the race still begins in humid coastal air. The early start limits heat exposure, while direct sun and breeze off the water can change how the second half feels once the morning warms.
